Chelsea Fc played out a frustrating draw against Manchester Untied at Stamford bridge yesterday, in one of the stand out fixtures of game week 13.
It was a game where the blues dominated their opponents Manchester United from start to finish, but still couldn’t find a way to break down the red devils defense.
Michael Carrick did set up his Man United team in a way that they will be able to absorb the fire power of the Chelsea team, and it somewhat worked yesterday, as they limited Chelsea’s goal threats to just a penalty on the the night.
However despite the disappointing result by Thomas Tuchel’s men, it was very obvious that they were clearly missing some key players against Man United, and it says alot about their chances of winning the league this season.
The blues went into the game with a couple of first team players being absent, such as the likes of Ben Chilwell, Ngolo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic.
One area which was lacking fire power for the blues was the left back position, which had Marcos Alonso who didn’t really live up to expectations against United and it made obvious, that Chilwell’s impact was missing in the team.
Chelsea have heavily relied on their wing backs this season and with Chilwell now injured, it will clearly reduce the blues attacking threats, and it was visible against Man United.
Another area that didn’t function well yesterday for the blues was their midfield. Ruben Loftus-Cheek fell off by his standards and it only but shows how important Kovacic and Ngolo Kante are to the Chelsea team.
Loftus-Cheek’s decision making in the final third against Man United was very questionable, and had it been the likes of Kante or Kovacic were on the pitch, am very sure it would have been a different story entirely.
The two midfielders offer much flair in attack for the blues, as they are not just ball carriers, but also can be creative when it matters most and also pop up with important goals from midfield.
In conclusion i feel, Epl teams will begin to study Chelsea’s performance against Man United yesterday, and if they can’t find a solution to the left back and midfield lapses currently being left by the absence of Chilwell, Kante and Mateo Kovacic at the moment, then i see Thomas Tuchel’s team struggling this season.
