Tottenham agree fee to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan but there could be a catch

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring in the Argentinean striker from the financially stricken Italian club but it might not be that simple

According to The Times, the plan is for Martinez to play alongside Kane in new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s attack.

Spurs have insisted they won’t sell the 28-year-old this summer amid heavy interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.

The north London club have already rejected an offer worth around £100m for Kane in the current transfer window.

There are said to be add-ons in the Martinez deal, with Inter valuing him at around £76.8m.

That would make him by far their most expensive ever addition, surpassing the £55m paid to sign Tanguy Ndombele.

The Athletic reported earlier in the summer that Arsenal were eyeing a move for Martinez as part of Mikel Arteta’s rebuild at the Emirates Stadium.

But the 23-year-old looks set to become Tottenham’s fourth summer signing in Nuno’s first transfer window at the helm.

Spurs have already signed Atalanta duo Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero on a season-long loan and £42.5m, respectively.

Sevilla winger Bryan Gil also joined the club for around £22m, coming the other way as part of a part-exchange for Erik Lamela.
