Chelsea have been linked with a move for Harry Kane, with the Blues willing to offer Romelu Lukaku in exchange, but the more likely targets at the end of the season are…
Lukaku wants to stay at Inter Milan, where he is currently on loan, while Kane has become an institution at Tottenham Hotspur and may be reluctant to move elsewhere.
Trophies are the only thing Kane has not won in his career, and a move to Bayern Munich as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski may help him more than a move to Stamford Bridge.
But even if this potential deal doesn’t come off, there are a few prolific and less expensive strikers who are far more likely to move to Chelsea next summer.
1) Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo desperately wanted to move to a club competing in the Champions League this season after Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League, and his agent Jorge Mendes was close to securing a move to Chelsea.
Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly wanted the world’s most marketable athlete in his ranks, but Thomas Tuchel rejected the idea and instead insisted on signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
But Tuchel has now been sacked and replaced by Graham Potter from Brighton, and the new manager may not be as willing or inclined to disagree with Boehly. Meanwhile, Ronaldo is out of contract at the end of the season, making the return on his investment even more enticing.
2) Ivan Toney
Ivan Toney is perhaps the most promising English striker apart from Tammy Abraham, who is already owned by Chelsea, and he is already turning out to be a goal machine in the Premier League with five goals in seven games for Brentford this season.
Toney came to the top flight of English football through Northampton, Newcastle and Peterborough, with a couple of loan spells in between, but he is only 26 and has now been called into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Italy and Germany.
The Player is valued at around €32 million, making him a better option and less expensive compared to Harry Kane who turns 30 by next year.
3) Moussa Dembele
Moussa Dembele, perhaps the striker who has the biggest difference between how talented he is and how highly he is valued by his current employers, would be a great option for Chelsea.
Dembele, who currently plays for Lyon where he has scored 69 goals in 150 games since joining Celtic in 2018, was loaned out to Atletico Madrid last season when Memphis Depay blocked his path to first team minutes, but now Alexandre Lacazette is on his way, having returned to Arsenal after five years.
Dembele is a 6ft tall striker with the same physical ability as Didier Drogba, who already speaks English, who has played for Celtic and previously Fulham, and who like Ronaldo has an expiring contract at the end of the season.
Kane at Chelsea would of course be fun for Blues fans, but all of the above players could score plenty of goals at Stamford Bridge, especially now that they have a manager who is good at working with central strikers.
