Todd Boehly Unwilling to Offer Ngolo Kante Contract he wants, he Could Leave For Free

It has been speculated that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is not willing to provide N’golo Kante the contract terms he is seeking at this time. Mail Online claims that the Frenchman wants a four-year contract in order to stay at the club, and that he will be free to go if the matter is not settled by the summer of 2019.

Since suffering an injury late in the Blues’ season-opening match against Tottenham, the 31-year-old has not been available for selection. Without him, the Blues have had a rough go of it, starting the season below average. Although Graham Potter has shown progress in his recuperation, he will be out for tonight’s crucial Champions League match against AC Milan.

Mail Online reports that Boehly is only providing a two-year contract with a third-year option to Kante, so the new manager won’t have any bearing on contract negotiations.

Although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was 33 when he signed with the club, he was given the same contract. According to the article, Kante is demanding a contract similar to the four-year agreement granted to Kalidou Koulibaly earlier this summer because the two players are the same age.

There is no one else in sport who can do what Kante does at his level, so losing him would be devastating for the Blues. To replace the Frenchman, you’d need a world-class signing, and next summer, Jude Bellingham is one of your best bets. The team’s decision to grant him a deal will undoubtedly factor in his injury history, but the owners shouldn’t lose sight of how powerful he can be when healthy.
