Premier League takes decision on suspending all matches due to COVID-19 Omicron

The Premier League has insisted that they intend to continue with the season “where safely possible”, amid calls for all fixtures to be suspended.

England’s top flight have seen several games called off, because of the spike in COVID-19 Omicron cases.

Manchester United’s home game against Brighton on Saturday is the latest to be postponed.

The Red Devils had been forced to postpone their trip to Brentford on Tuesday prior.

Thursday night’s clash between Leicester City and Tottenham has been called off, but although Chelsea also reported a few cases on Thursday, their match with Everton tonight will still go ahead.

A Premier League statement on Thursday read: “While recognising a number of clubs are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks, it is the League’s intention to continue its current fixture schedule where safely possible. The health and wellbeing of all concerned remains our priority.”
