Argentine maestro and forward enigma, Lionel Messi was in action on Tuesday night for Paris Saint Germain in their third game of the UEFA Champions League Group A ties against RasenBallsport Leipzig at the Parc Des Princes.
The former Barcelona talisman was handed a role to play in his team’s starting XI following his incredible performance for the club in their previous game before the international break, having established himself as a key figure in the squad paraded by Mauricio Pochettino since his arrival at the club in the last summer transfer window.
Lionel Messi in the game was able to shine as he played significant roles in his team’s hard-fought victory which placed them at the top of the table.
The first half of the game was such a balanced one between the two sides as there was nothing separating them at the break which ended one all draw.
The host opened the scoring sheet in the 9th minute of the game with a goal from Kylian Mbappé to make it one nil before the visitor got levelled with a goal from Andre Silva to make it 1-1 going into the half time break.
The tempo of the game in the second half got more intensed as they both put up some physical, tactical and technical displays with the visitor taking the lead in the 57th minute with a goal from Nordi Mukiele to make it two goals to one before Lionel Messi put his side back into the game with his first goal of the night to make it 2-2.
In the 74th minute, Lionel Messi was able to gave his side the lead via penalty as he put the ball away from the spot to make it three goals to two.
After every other attempts from both sides to add more to the tally of the night, all were not successful as it ended three goals to two at full time.
Lionel Messi with his brace of the night has now scored against his 82nd different clubs at the club level and his 37th in the UEFA champions league.
The win for Paris Saint Germain has now taken them to the top of the table with 7 points in 3 games played and as such be hoping to keep the winning streaks going in their next fixture, so as to continue their pursuit in the competition.
Lionel Messi who has now scored a total of three goals for his new club all in the UCL will also be optimistic to keep his brilliant run of form going in their next game so as to keep helping the team.
