England vs USA referee Jesus Valenzuela makes his World Cup debut in Qatar

Venezuela will be represented at the Qatar World Cup by referee Jesus Valenzuela, who takes charge of England vs USA on Friday night in Group B.

The 39-year-old, who came from Venezuela’s Primera Division, is playing in his first World Cup match in any competition.

Nine red cards were shown in his past 10 games when playing back in South America, demonstrating his willingness to hand out cards.

Valenzuela has issued 60 yellow cards in that span, so we shouldn’t be surprised if there are a few bookings in the England vs. USA match.

He participated in South American World Cup qualifying matches, most recently serving as the match referee when Paraguay defeated Ecuador 3-1 in March of this year.

He is not only skilled in club football; he also displayed seven yellow and one red cards as Paraguay triumphed 3-1.

Morteza Pouraliganji and Alireza Jahanbakhsh were the only players to receive yellow cards in England’s World Cup opening match against Iran.

After their 1-1 draw with Wales earlier this week, in which Tim Ream, Sergino Dest, Weston McKennie, and Kellyn Acosta were all issued cautions, the USA cannot make the same claim.

Any of those players would be forced to sit out the final group match against Iran, which will be essential to their chances of moving on to the knockout stages if they receive a second booking
