Conor Gallagher: Chelsea midfielder joins Crystal Palace on season-long loan

Chelsea and England Under-21 midfielder Conor Gallagher has joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan.

Gallagher, 21, has a Blues contract until 2025 but is yet to make a first-team appearance and has spent the past two seasons on loan gaining experience.

Last term, he made 32 appearances as West Brom were relegated from the Premier League.

“I’m buzzing to be here. I can’t wait to get started, I’m happy to get the deal over the line,” said Gallagher.

“I spoke to the manager, I liked what he said, I liked how he wants to play, how he wants me to play and how he wants the team to play.

“I feel like I can learn from him and the players around me.”

In addition to his stint at West Brom, Gallagher also spent time on loan at Championship sides Charlton and Swansea during the 2019-20 season.

Palace tried to land Gallagher on loan last summer, but opted for Chelsea and Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi instead.

Leeds United were among the clubs interested in signing the youngster, who will now team up with new Palace boss Patrick Vieira.

Gallagher becomes Vieira’s fifth signing at Selhurst Park after the Frenchman replaced Roy Hodgson, joining Joachim Andersen, Marc Guehi, Michael Olise and Remi Matthews
