The likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Niklas Sule and Declan Rice continue to be linked with the Blues, whilst others, including Antonio Rudiger, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Marcos Alonso could leave the club sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, frontman Romelu Lukaku is a doubt for the Brentford clash after he withdrew from Belgium’s squad ahead of their Nations League tie with Italy today.

Tuchel on PSG

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said it was harder to train PSG’s players compared to his current Blues side.

The German coached superstars Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe in the French capital but has found more success in west London where he already guided the Blues to Champions League and Super Cup success.

“It is not easy to train Neymar and Mbappè. I had difficult moments at PSG,” said Tuchel.

What Romelu Lukaku’s £97.5m Chelsea transfer means for signing Erling Haaland in 2022

There were few more rumoured transfers in the summer than that of Erling Haaland to Chelsea.

The Norwegian striker has impressed all-comers since joining Borussia Dortmund in December 2019 and a huge transfer has already been pre-determinted by football’s commentariat for next summer.

Haaland, who has already netted 11 goals in eight games so far this season, is said to have a release clause in the region of £63.8million, meaning the likes of Manchester United, Manchester United and Real Madrid are ready to snap him up.

The Blues were reported to have been trying to get ahead of the game in the last transfer window, however. To beat the competition, Thomas Tuchel’s side were enquiring about a transfer before the release clause would be activated, and before there was competition that could really drive up his salary.

Haaland reportedly has a £68million release clause in his contract with Dortmund, but it does not become active until the summer of 2022, meaning there will be a queue of clubs interested in signing the 21-year-old.Chelsea chose not to continue their pursuit of Haaland in the summer and decided to go after former striker Romelu Lukaku.

More on Rudiger’s injury

Antonio Rudiger has missed Germany’s latest training session with a back injury, raising concerns that the defender could also be ruled out of Chelsea’s next Premier League game against Brentford on Saturday, the Metro have reported.

The west London club will now be sweating on the fitness of their key player after it emerged that he was absent from Germany’s final training session today ahead of their World Cup qualifier against North Macedonia on Monday after complaining of back problems, according to Bild.

However, German coach Hansi Flick played down the injury after the session, saying: ‘Antonio Rudiger didn’t train as a precautionary measure, he received treatment and was doing well today.’
