Chelsea entered the October break with a 3-1 win over Southampton with Reece James, N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic all missing

And now it seems as if Romelu Lukaku may have joined the absentees after he was withdrawn from the Belgium squad following an injury.

The former Inter Milan striker was forced to sit out the Nations League third and fourth play-off against Italy on Sunday.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez revealed that Lukaku had to leave the squad due to a muscle problem in his pre-match press conference.

“Romelu Lukaku is suffering from muscle fatigue, same as Eden Hazard,” he said.

“They’re not in best conditions to play. They’re leaving the national team camp due to these problems – I don’t know how long it will take.”

However, there is more positive news on both Kante and James after the pair returned to training at the Blues’ Cobham base.

The former is in contention after he missed both the defeat to Juventus and the win against Southampton after testing positive for Covid-19.

James, meanwhile, was unable to link up with England following an ankle problem but the right-back also joined Chelsea training on Tuesday.

Antonio Rudiger missed Germany’s World Cup qualifier against North Macedonia with back problems.

But German coach Hansi Flick allayed any injury fears despite the defender also sitting out the final training session before that game.

He said: “Antonio Rudiger didn’t train as a precautionary measure, he received treatment and was doing well today.

“It was a precautionary measure. The final training was more a matter of regeneration anyway. So it was okay for him in the hotel.”

Lastly, Pulisic remains a doubt for this weekend’s clash against Brentford with the same ankle issue that kept him out of USA’s squad this week
