Chelsea fans have been hit by yet another wave of disappointing news regarding defender Antonio Rüdiger’s future at the Stamford Bridge. This is after the latest reports indicated that Spanish giants FC Barcelona are monitoring his current situation at the club. The Catalans join Bayern Munich, Juventus and PSG in the race to sign the German centre-back.

Rüdiger, who’ll be turning 29 in March, is entering the final six months of his contract at Chelsea and his next contract could be the biggest of his career. The former AS Roma and Vfb Stuttgart man is keen to be paid what he deems he’s worth, although the project on offer could be the biggest factor when deciding his next move. He is yet to rule out a stay at the Stamford Bridge beyond the summer but for that to happen, the Blues will have to make him the highest paid defender in the Premier League.

Chelsea’s latest offer at the start of the season was rejected by the Germany international as it promised to pay him only half of what the club’s top earners make. He termed the offer disrespectful. Real Madrid, who were among the top clubs looking for his signature, ended their interest after talks stalled because of his conditions. Bayern Munich, PSG and Juventus are, however, holding talks with his representatives.

The 28-year-old has not shown any signs of being in a hurry to make any pre-contract agreements with a new club and remains committed to the team and helping boss Thomas Tuchel achieve his objectives. The Stamford Bridge outfits are facing a number of departures in their back-line, with Denmark international Andreas Christensen and captain Cesar Azpilicueta’s contracts also expiring this summer
