Can Sergi Barjuán Survive Barcelona’s Next Five Games?

Barcelona have officially announced Sergi Barjuán as their interim manager until Xavi Hernández arrives, after they sacked Ronald Koeman yesterday.

The Spaniard is Barcelona B coach, and Joan Laporta believes he’s able to take care of the squad, as they focus on bringing their main replacement to Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s next five fixtures in all competitions are quite tough and important, especially in the UEFA Champions League. However, it’s kind of iffy if Sergi Barjuán can survive all the matches, because of the situation on ground in the team. Of course, Ronald Koeman usually used the formation of 4-3-3, so maybe the interim manager could try something new, if he really wants to succeed during his time.

The Bluagranas lost back-to-back LaLiga games after being in 9th position in the league table, and they are currently in 3rd place in their UEFA Champions League group table. Having said that, the Spaniard needs to setup his game, so as to be able to perform amazingly in their next five matches in all competitions. Potentially, he’s able to bail Barcelona out of their current mess in LaLiga and UCL. Nevertheless, these five fixtures won’t come easily for him.

Barcelona vs Alaves

In all fairness, Barcelona can not avoid losing three LaLiga games in a row, so they have to win at Camp Nou tomorrow. Both Alaves and the Bluagranas have the same record (2 wins, 3 defeats) in their last five matches. However, the match is very important to Barcelona, so they are able to fight for 3 points under Sergi Barjuán with the likes of Ansu Fati, Memphis Depay and Sergio Agüero anchoring the frontline.

Dynamo Kyiv vs Barcelona

Without a doubt, this match is very essential for the Catalans, if they really want to qualify for the next phase of the UEFA Champions League in 2021-2022. As a result, the Spaniard has to do all that it takes to win against the Ukrainian team. Statistically, Dynamo Kyiv haven’t won a single game against Barcelona, as regards their previous five meetings. As a result, the Bluagranas have the upper hand in subduing the Ukrainians, in order to improve their chances of qualifying out of the UCL group stage.

Celta Vigo vs Barcelona

Actually, this is another important clash for Barcelona, especially for the interim manager, because Joan Laporta believes in his managerial prowess. However, both Celta Vigo and Barcelona have the same record in their last 5 games, and they defeated the Bluagranas 2-1 in their last meeting. Celta always frustrates the Catalans, so the match won’t come easily for the Spaniard, especially when he’s being trusted to change the current situation until the new gaffer arrives.

Barcelona vs Espanyol

In all honesty, the Catalans will have to improve their games after the international break, because this particular match will be a tough one to win. Espanyol only lost one game in their last five games in the league, as they even defeated Real Madrid. As a result, Sergi Barjuán will have to select his winning starting XI, so as to be able to bolster the team’s all-around performance, and qualify for the top-4 in the league table.

Barcelona vs Benfica

Obviously, the Portuguese side won’t hold back in attacking Barcelona, because they know their qualification depends on the result. As a result, it’s going to be a tough and interesting match. However, the LaLiga side should be able to win, because the likes of Ousmane Dembélé, Pedri González and the rest should be available. It would be a ludicrous record for Barcelona, if they fail to make it out of the group-stage this season.

Simply put, Sergi Barjuán has been appointed as Barcelona’s interim manager until Xavi Hernández arrives. Therefore, the Spaniard should be able to win three matches out of their next five fixtures in all competitions, because the clash against Benfica and Espanyol won’t be easy for him, as they are both capable of frustrating the Bluagranas.
