It’s a new year, but Manchester City will be hoping for more of the same as they search for an 11th straight Premier League win at Arsenal this lunchtime.

City are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, and know victory at Arsenal will see them put more daylight between at least one of chasers Chelsea and Liverpool, who play each other on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola won’t be able to reunite with friend and former assistant Mikel Arteta, who is isolating with Covid and will miss the game. Guardiola may also have to pick his team without John Stones and Rodri, who missed training again this week, while Joao Cancelo was also missing after being assaulted during a burglary at his home but has decided to travel to London with the squad for the game.

Riyad Mahrez could also make his final appearance before linking up with his Algeria squad for the African Cup of Nations

City have turned their Arsenal fortunes around

For a league fixture which City failed to win for 38 years until 2013, Arsenal away has become something of a cinch in recent years.

The Blues have won their last five visits to the Emirates, including some scintillating vvictories, not least th 3-0 victory at an ice-bound ground in 2018, when the Beast from the East played havoc with travel to the game for the hardy Blues who made it to north London.

That freezing night saw some of the best football City have ever played, capped by a wonderful Leroy Sane goal as he virtually walked it into the net.

More of the same would send the Blues into 2022 in perfect fashion.

Arsenal XI vs. Man City: Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Partey, Xhaka, Saka, Ødegaard, Martinelli, Lacazette.

Subs: Leno, Smith Rowe, Maitland-Niles, Holding, Soares, Pepe, Tavares, Lokonga, Elneny. #ARSMCI #MaGunners
